Mythic Journeys is an inventive fusion of documentary, story, artwork and animation. Despite the fact that myth has always existed, surprisingly few people today are aware of even the classic myths or the potential myths have to impact their lives. Myths are the reservoir of human wisdom - the story and the meaning of life. Every human being has asked the questions who am I, what is my purpose, why am I here? The answers are in the myths that have been passed on from generation to generation. Mythology is a tool that can bridge cultures, communities and generations. Through this film we hope to inspire people to activism and show that by helping others we ultimately help ourselves.

There is a saying, “Love without action is meaningless, but action without love is irrelevant.” It's time to act, it's time to evolve. We are the ancestors of the future. Thousands of years from now we are going to be those handprints on the cave walls. And people will look back and say those were our ancestors; what did they do? They say they lived their lives to the fullest. So, it doesn't matter how we die, it only matters how we live. Every life is a story and that story can change the world.

For 5 days in June, Steven and Whitney Boe attended the 2006 Mythic Journeys Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. They documented the events of the festival, which included daily hands-on workshops, seminars, and conversations about contemporary world issues such as the Iraq War, the economy, the environment, the need for cultural understanding as well as more personal issues such as grief, inspiration, love and spiritual wellness.

While at the conference the filmmakers were privileged to interview not only Deepak Chopra but over 30 of today's spiritual and mythological leaders including Bob Walter, the President of the Joseph Campbell Foundation; Sobonfu Some, an author and healer from Burkina Faso, Africa; and Andres Botran, the sure-to-be future President of Guatemala. Portions of the interviews along with segments from the dialogues and workshops will be intercut with a stop-motion animation version of the myth The Bone Orchard , a beautifully dark tale in which a King finds himself in a graveyard of specters and macabre magic and learns the secrets to the universe through a series of mythic challenges.

Like a mythological story, this project is multi-layered. Each act peels back another layer as we transition from reality to 3-D stop-motion, to 2-D art work and back again, revealing the world behind this world – the mythic world.

If you would like to become directly involved in the project please feel free to contact us! We are still in need of
animators and graphic artists who can volunteer their services.
